Creating a New Rate

Creating a rate in Portmasters is a multi-step process divided into two main parts: Main Information and Pricing.

Part 1: Main Information

  1. Navigate to the Manage section and click on the Rate tab.
  2. Click the + New Rate button in the top right corner.
  3. The New Rate – Part 1/2 Main information dialog will appear.

Required fields

Movement

  • Select the shipment type from the dropdown menu.
  • Options include: FCL (Full Container Load), LCL (Less than Container Load), FTL (Full Truck Load), LTL (Less than Truck Load), or Air.

Estimated Time Departure

  • Click the date picker icon.
  • Select the expected departure date for this rate.

Port of Loading

  • Select the origin port where the cargo will be picked up.
  • Use the dropdown to search and select from available ports.

Port of Discharge

  • Select the destination port where cargo will be delivered.
  • Use the dropdown to search and select from available ports.

Transit Time

  • Enter the number of days required for shipment.
  • This helps calculate the estimated arrival time.

Valid to

  • Click the date picker icon.
  • Select the expiration date for this rate.
  • After this date, the rate will no longer be available for booking.

Export/Import

  • Select whether this rate applies to Export, Import, or both.
  • Export = the company is at the origin.
  • Import = the company is at the destination.
  • Check the appropriate box.

Terms and Conditions (optional)

  • Enter any specific terms and conditions applicable to this rate.
  • This can include special requirements, restrictions, or notes.

When you’re done with the main information, click Next to proceed to Part 2.

Part 2: Price ($)

After completing the main information, you’ll see a summary header showing:

  • Origin and destination ports
  • Transit time
  • Departure and arrival dates
  • Movement type (e.g., FCL)
  • Export/Import designation

Pricing fields

Place of loading truck fee

  • Enter the trucking fee at the origin location.
  • This covers transportation from the shipper to the port of loading.

Place of delivery truck fee

  • Enter the trucking fee at the destination location.
  • This covers transportation from the port of discharge to the consignee.

Documentation

  • Enter documentation handling fees.
  • This includes paperwork processing costs.

Container pricing

For each container type you want to offer:

  1. Kind of container – Select from the dropdown (e.g., 20’ Standard, 40’ Standard, 20’ High Cube, 40’ High Cube).
  2. Price for freight – Enter the ocean/air freight cost for this container type.
  3. Price for POL (Port of Loading) – Enter origin port charges and terminal handling fees.
  4. Price for POD (Port of Discharge) – Enter destination port charges and terminal handling fees.
  5. Click the + Add button to add additional container types to this rate.

Adding multiple container types

  • You can add as many container types as needed for a single rate.
  • Each container type will have its own freight, POL, and POD pricing.
  • This allows customers to compare options and choose the container that fits their cargo.
  • Click Back to return to Part 1 and modify the main information.
  • Click See the preview to review your rate before saving.

Part 3: Preview and Confirm

After clicking See the preview, you’ll see a comprehensive summary of your rate.

Route summary

  • Origin and destination with dates.
  • Movement type and transit time.

Fee breakdown

  • Place of loading truck fee.
  • Place of delivery truck fee.
  • Documentation fee.

Container pricing matrix

  • All container types with their respective POL and POD prices.
  • Displayed in an easy-to-read table format.

Rate terms

  • Optional specific terms and conditions applied to this rate.

Final actions

  • Click Edit to go back and make changes.
  • Click Save to create the rate.

Once saved, you’ll see a confirmation message:
“The rate successfully created. You can see and manage the rate in the Rate tab on Manage.”
